Pros
Cons
Imagine if you could create a website for your business without knowing anything about coding.
If you could just select necessary blocks and drag them into places. You would save an incredible amount of time and money.
And, by the end of it, you could deliver your customers the beautiful and easy to use website for selling your product.

What is Wix?
WIX (since 2006) is a cloud-based web development platform, widely used across the world:
- Over 150 million users worldwide
- Users from over 190 countries
WIX allows users to create websites and mobile sites through its drag-and-drop tools. You don’t need to know anything about coding.
Wix provides some amazing features for building a website:
- Hundreds of free templates
- Both free and paid web hosting and domain names
- And of course… Wix App Market
The Wix App Market is a marketplace you can select common or niche components and tools for your website. Those tools might be free or paid, most of them use the freemium model.
Imagine you need a gallery, a form or an events calendar. Don’t worry its all there in the market.
Who is Wix for?
Quick answer
Photographers, musicians, restaurants, artists, bloggers. Basically, anyone who needs a professional and beautiful visualization of the product. Perfect for small businesses.
Wix is especially great for small businesses since you can achieve amazing results with little funds and effort. In this case, less is more.
On the other hand, if you own a big business, you could probably afford a professional team of coders to develop a page for you. After all, we all have 24 hours a day without exceptions.
I would definitely suggest Wix for photographers, musicians, restaurants, artists, bloggers and so on… You can check examples here.
You are most likely not going to find an industry that does not have a working Wix website. So whatever your niche is, you can create a website with Wix for it. Only your imagination is the limit.
On the other hand, if you are planning an eCommerce website, Wix might not be the best choice for you out there. For eCommerce sites, I recommend specialized platforms, like Shopify or BigCommerce. Read more about eCommerce platforms here.
How to use Wix?
Using Wix is simple and I really mean it. Just sign up and start creating your page.
For creating a page there are two options: using Wix ADI or creating a website with Wix Editor yourself.
Tip
If you have no experience what so ever with creating websites, I recommend starting by using Wix ADI.
Using Wix editor
Creating a website with Wix editor is a standard approach for creating websites with drag-and-drop tools. First Wix lets you choose a base template for your page. The template variation is almost limitless. Check out some templates here.
After choosing an awesome template for your website, you can add and modify blocks on your site. To add a new block just click “Add” from the left menu.
Drag your blocks into places and you are good to go. If you can’t seem to find a block you need, don’t worry it’s probably present in the App Market.
If you have dragged your blocks into places, you can check the preview by clicking the preview button at the top right of your screen.
In the preview, you can see both desktop and mobile versions of your sites. Another huge plus for Wix is that you don’t have to worry about mobile designs separately. Wix just creates it for you.
Using Wix ADI
Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) is an even more powerful tool. It allows you to set up a page in 5 minutes… or even less.
Wix ADI asks you a couple of questions about your desired website and does the rest of the magic itself. Questions are easy to answer and there are not that many of those.
Now you might ask yourself: what if I want to change something that the ADI created?
The answer is simple, you can modify/add/delete everything that the ADI created using Wix editor. So you can look at Wix ADI like a tool that creates you a template that you can later customize to your needs.
Usability
Quick answer
Wix is the easiest website builder to use for anyone.
I can honestly say that I have never found a tool that enables me to set up a website faster than Wix… and here is why.
Are you kidding me? To set up a working and professional-looking website that quickly feels like a problem for nuclear physicists… yet it is actually easy.
Some website builders are confusing to use but Wix isn’t one of those. Wix is understandable at first sight and usable intuitively.
I have two friends who have used Wix for setting up a website for side businesses. Neither of them has a background in coding whatsoever. Both of them were surprised how easy it is to set up a website, even for non-programmers.
If they could do it, why can’t you? Well… You can!
The only thing I find a bit weird about Wix is that after I have chosen a template, I can’t change it. I mean, I can but I have to start from the beginning.
Tip
Always make sure to choose the correct template from the start or it might take you extra 15 minutes or so to start from the beginning
Wix tools
So far we have discussed Wix editor and Wix ADI but Wix has many other useful tools.
Tools include free hosting, Google Analytics integration, custom domain names, SSL certificates and more… and more. The list is really long.
Read more about features here.
With all of its astonishing features and tools, Wix is a complete package for creating a website.
So if you need a complete package Wix is definitely a way to go. Of course, you can’t have everything for free, but at least you get all the basic features.
Wix pricing
Quick answer
Basic features are free. If the paid plan is necessary, then most of us do not have to spend more that $22/month. In my opinion, Wix’s pricing is customer friendly and honest.
The most important thing about pricing it that, you don’t have to pay anything. There is a free plan available with all the basic features.
Wix has 8 premium and business plans available: price ranges between $13 to $49 monthly. Traditionally the more money you pay, the more functionality you get.
Wix also has a plan for enterprises thats costs $500 per month and includes everything you could imagine. For most of us, this plan is not even worth considering. However, if it fits your needs, you should check it out.
You can choose your own plan according to your needs, but a wild estimate is that most people don’t need more that Pro (€22/month) or for eCommerce Business Unlimited ($27/month).
Check out all the plans here!
Summary
To sum up, Wix is a great tool for an average non-coder to set up a website and here is why:
- It is easily usable
- It takes only a little time to set up
- Wix ADI does most of the work for you
I strongly recommend using Wix if you own a small business or you need a page for your photos, blogs, music, portfolio and so on. Wix has a huge variety of templates for you to choose from.
On the other hand, if you are planning an eCommerce website, it might not be the best choice for you out there. I personally like would more eCommerce specialized platforms like Shopify or BigCommerce are the way to go. Explore our eCommerce reviews here.
Remember Wix is really easy to use and it doesn’t have to cost you anything. Even if you choose a paid plan, the price is still in my opinion rather low.
So… Need a professional and amazing looking website set up now? Try Wix out.
